What is rosacea and how is it different from acne?

Rosacea is a facial skin condition which involves a formation of red or pink patches, red cysts or small red bumps on the face. Rosacea is often considered as acne, but the two are different, though rosacea can coexist with acne.

Symptoms of rosacea may include facial flushing, redness of the face, formation of red bumps or cysts. The forehead, cheeks, nose and chin are usually the most affected areas.

Rosacea can in fact be considered as adult acne. The condition manifests itself in the form of red non-squeezable bumps and is usually seen in fair skinned adults between the ages of 30-50 years.

The exact cause of rosacea is not known yet. The causes can be anything from genetics, heredity or even stomach disorders.

Emotions like stress or anxiety can flare up rosacea. Some foods (alcohol, some fatty foods,spicy foods) could also aggravate rosacea.

Since we know what rosacea is, it’s necessary to know about rosacea care, since this skin conditions needs to be treated in a different way.

Rosacea is different from acne and should be treated differently. Its best to consult a dermatologist for the treatment of rosacea,since they can prescribe the right medication to control this skin disorder.Its said that rosacea has no cure yet,but proper skin care can certainly help in keeping rosacea under control.

For a rosacea skin always use a gentle face wash. Too much chemicals in the face wash may irritate the rosacea skin. It’s necessary to pat the skin dry after washing since the rubbing the face harshly may cause further damage to the skin.

As an important part of rosacea care, always use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Too much exposure to the sun could also aggravate rosacea.

Choose cosmetics and any other facial applications with care, since some  cosmetics may worsen rosacea. Choose the right moisturizer as per your skin type and always try to choose a natural based product.

Following the above tips will help in rosacea care.Rosacea is a serious skin condition,so taking proper care of the rosacea skin is very impotant to keep the condition under control.
